Roto-Mill Inc. is an innovative leader in bringing new technologies to the Road Construction Industry in Ontario. This is evidenced by being the first company in Canada to provide the service of making Rumble Strips along the shoulders of roadways.

A Rumble Strip is a pattern of grooves that are milled along the shoulder or median strip of a paved asphaltic road. These transverse grooves are made utilizing the milling (cold planing) process with a special cutter. The cutter is designed specifically to mill the pattern of grooves at a pre-specified depth, width and length. The depth is generally preset at ± 10 mm. The width of the Rumble Strip is 150 mm with the length varying from a minimum of 15 cm to a maximum of 40 cm.

Rumble Strips are used as an acoustical alerting device. When a vehicle travels over the grooved pattern, the tires will emanate a sound that alerts the driver that they are on the shoulder of the road which allows them to take the appropriate action. The Rumble Strip does not affect the maneuverability of the vehicle.

Roto-Mill Inc. is also able to provide a Lateral Acoustical Alerting Device. These are a transverse grooved pattern that extend across the full width of a lane or as specified (in a parking lot) and are used as a deterrent to speeding. The depth is generally preset at ± 10 mm. The width of the actual groove is 10 cm with the length of the groove being as specified by the Customer. Once again, when a vehicle travels over the grooved pattern, a sound emanates from the tires alerting the driver to slow down.

If you have any questions or require more detail on the Rumble Strip or the Lateral Acoustic Alert Device, we would be happy to address any and all inquiries.
